Instructions for Installing Dial-up Networking for Windows '98

** Print these instructions on your printer so that you can 
** follow them during installation.

Microsoft delivered Windows '98 with a very well written 
Internet Connection Wizard.  All you will need to do is 
supply the Connection Wizard with the information it needs
and you will have connection to the internet.

These instructions walk you through a step by step process
to answer the questions asked by the Connection Wizard for 
a typical connection on Grapevine Internet Services. 


Start the Connection Wizard by selecting 
Start/Programs/Internet Explorer/Connection Wizard

[Internet Connection Wizard]
  - Click the radio button (middle choice )at the paragraph 
    that starts: 
    "I have an existing Internet account through my phone line..."
  - Click "Next >"

[Internet Connection Wizard - Select an option,]
  - Click "Next >"

[Internet Connection Wizard - Set Up Your Internet Connection]
  - Click "Next >"
  - Windows will ask for your cd rom or installation disks at 
    this time to read and install needed files.  This may take
    a couple of minutes.

If Windows '98 has not found and installed your modem yet it will
do so now Otherwise you will skip down to the "Dial-Up Connection"
window below.

[Install New Modem]
  - Click "Next >"
  - This will take a few minutes while Windows locates and verifies
    your modem.

[Verify Modem]
  - Click "Next >"
  - Click "Finish"

[Internet Connection Wizard - Dial-Up Connection]
  - Click "Next >"

[Internet Connection Wizard - Phone Number]
  - Make sure the "Area Code" field has "661" (without the quotes)
    in it.
  - Type "284-1905" in the "Telephone Number" Field.
  - Click "Next >"

[Internet Connection Wizard - User Name and Password]
  - Type your userid in the "User Name" field. (by default Windows
    places your computer's name or the user name that you entered
    when you installed Windows.  This name is probably not the
    same as the name you have on the Grapevine system, so you will
    have to change it.)
  - Type your password in the "Password" field.
  - Click "Next >"

[Internet Connection Wizard - Advanced Settings]
  - Click "Next >"

[Internet Connection Wizard - Dial-Up connection Name]
  - Type "Grapevine" (without the quotes) in the "Connection Name"
    field.
  - Click "Next >"

[Internet Connection Wizard - Set Up Your Internet Mail Account]
  - Click "Next >"

[Internet Connection Wizard - Internet Mail Account]
  - Select "Create a new Internet mail account."
  - Click "Next >"

[Internet Connection Wizard - Your Name]
  - Type your Full name in the "Display Name" field.
  - Click "Next >"

[Internet Connection Wizard - Internet E-mail Address]
  - Type your Grapevine userid@thevine.net in the "E-mail address" 
    field. (for example if your userid is JDoe then you would 
    type in "JDoe@thevine.net" (without the qoutes.))
  - Click "Next >"

[Internet Connection Wizard - E-mail Server Names]
  - Type "pop3.thevine.net" (without the qoutes) in the "Incoming 
    mail (POP3 or IMAP) server" field.
  - Type "smtp.thevine.net" (without the qoutes) in the "Outgoing
    mail (SMTP) server" field.
  - Click "Next >"

[Internet Connection Wizard - Internet Mail Logon]
  - Click on the "Log on using" radio button.
  - Type your Grapevine userid in the "POP account name" field.
  - Type your password in the "Password" field.
  - Click "Next >"

[Internet Connection Wizard - Friendly Name]
  - Type your name in the "Internet mail account name" field.
  - Click "Next >"

[Internet Connection Wizard - Set Up Your Internet News Account]
  - Click "Next >"

[Internet Connection Wizard - Internet News Account]
  - Click on "Create a new Internet news account.
  - Click "Next >"

[Internet Connection Wizard - Your Name]
  - Type your name in the "Display Name" field.
  - Click "Next >"

[Internet Connection Wizard - Internet News E-mail Address]
  - Type your Grapevine userid@thevine.net in the "E-mail address" 
    field. (for example if your userid is JDoe then you would 
    type in "JDoe@thevine.net" (without the qoutes.))
  - Click "Next >"

[Internet Connection Wizard - Internet News Server Name]
  - Type "news.thevine.net" (without the qoutes) in the 
    "News (NNTP) server" field.
  - Click "Next >"

[Internet Connection Wizard - Friendly Name]
  - Type your name in the "Internet news account name" field.
  - Click "Next >"

[Internet Connection Wizard - Set Up Your Internet Directory Service]
  - Click the "No" radio button.
  - Click "Next >"

[Internet Connection Wizard - Configuration Complete]
  - Click "Finish"

Now your Windows will want to restart your computer. Click "Yes"

Now you can connect to the internet by double clicking on the 
"Internet Explorer" icon on your desktop or by going to the 
"My Computer" icon then to the "Dial-Up Networking" folder and
double clicking on the newly created "Grapevine" connection icon.

Once your connection is established you can launch any internet
software you want to use such as Netscape or Internet Explorer.
